Ellie Paladine

2022-2024 FMA Alliance President

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE - OCTOBER 2022

On Thursday, September 15, 2022, the FMAA/FMAF held our Annual Meeting in Naples, FL.  Due to Covid restrictions this was the first time in 3 years that we were able to hold the meeting in-person.    A virtual component was offered for those who could not attend in-person.

Outgoing President, Anne Grenitz, summarized accomplishments during the past year, including grants that were awarded to PRN (Physician Resource Network) and to the Orange County Medical Society Alliance for emergency assistance for nursing students.

We were honored to have AMAA President, Jacqueline Nguyen, as our special guest.  Jacqueline spoke about the work and goals of the AMAA, including a 3-year strategic plan to support the physician family and honoring the 100-year history of the AMAA.  Jacqueline installed FMAA new officers and directors (listed above).

Incoming President, Ellie Paladine, reviewed goals for the coming year. Based on surveys conducted by the Strategic Planning Committee and using the FMAA Mission as a base, 2 goals have been determined.  One is to Support Physician Families in Florida, which will deal with membership issues - how to engage and retain current members, how to re-engage lapsed members, and how to attract and recruit new members. The other goal is to Educate and Advocate for Health-Related Issues in Florida which will put a focus on one health-related issue for a two-year period.  Surveys indicated a priority for a focus on mental health.  We will also look for ideas on how to raise funds for the Florida Medical Alliance Foundation so that we can continue with our grant programs.

To get us started on our focus on mental health, guest speakers Mary Shea and Kristen Long, of NAMI Collier (National Alliance on Mental Illness) presented a slide show and spoke about the work of NAMI Collier.  There are affiliates of NAMI Florida throughout the state that the FMAA, county Alliances and individual members will be able to partner with.

Your participation will be critical.  I hope you will see the value of the Florida Medical Association Alliance, for you, for your families and for our Florida communities. Working together we can grow and thrive.  As always, together we can make a difference.
