PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE January 2023

The Florida Medical Association Alliance, members of our County Alliances and state members, ended 2022 with a flurry of activities.  We are off to a promising start for 2023.

FMAA Membership 2023 dues are now being accepted.  Join now to support the organization and receive the benefits of membership.  You can now gift a membership in the FMAA for a friend or new physician spouse.          https://www.myfmaa.org/membership

Don’t allow your membership in this unique organization to lapse.  During the two years of the Covid pandemic many of us set aside social and organizational activities.  The FMAA is stepping up its program activities for members and enhanced membership benefits. Your participation on committees or in leadership roles is welcome, but if you aren’t inclined to add another activity to your schedule, please consider paying membership dues to support FMAA activities and programs. If you are a member of a County Alliance, please also consider joining the FMAA to support health-related programs throughout Florida. The FMAA is a unique organization for spouses/partners of physicians. Working together we can do more for health-related initiatives in Florida and in your own communities.

I welcome invitations to join you at any functions or meetings in your community. As a statewide organization and with the help of technology, we have all learned to communicate virtually.  However, there is nothing better or more fulfilling than face to face interaction.    I look forward to meeting many of you in the coming year.

NOW ACCEPTING  2023 DUES    PAYMENTS!

HEALTH PROJECTS

DOUBLE GOOD POPCORN FUNDRAISER

Under the leadership of board member, Denise Allen, the FMAA held its first fundraiser to support mental health programs – our focus health project for 2022-2023.  Thanks to team members and all who participated and purchased popcorn, more than $2,000 was raised to benefit the Florida Medical Alliance Foundation which will be used for mental health programs in the coming year. Stay tuned for more specifics.

FLORIDA MEDICAL ALLIANCE FOUNDATION

The FMAF recently awarded $4,000 in grants to:

  • Lee County Medical Society - $1000 was awarded to the LCMS from the FMAF Disaster Relief Fund to assist local physicians whose homes and/or offices were affected by Hurricane Ian.
  • The Children’s Advocacy Center of Collier Countyreceived a grant of $1000 from the FMAF Disaster Relief Fund to help with items needed to recover from Hurricane Ian. Their building was flooded and many supplies were lost or destroyed.
  • The FMAF awarded $1000 to the Collier County Medical Society Alliance Foundation to support the RegeneGator Student Research fund at the University of Florida. Pre-med students will be conducting research to develop therapies for a wide range of unmet medical needs.
  • A grant of $1000 from the FMAF was awarded to the Capital Medical Society Foundation to benefit the food pantry for medical students at the Tallahassee Regional Campus of the FSU College of Medicine.  Financial resources for many medical students often don’t stretch far enough to include healthy food.  We are happy to support efforts to keep our future physicians healthy and happy.
